All Boarded Up

After posting the other day about reclaimed materials, a friend reminded me that I'd never posted a picture of the completed "living room" wall. While I can't actually claim it's 100% completed (still missing a board at the bottom and trim on the edge...), I can say I think the old wood we attached to the plywood wall has transformed the room for me. It's warmer and richer, and I love the contrast with the white walls around it.

We recovered the wood from a collapsed outbuilding up the mountain. Much of it was rotted and needed to be cut away. We cleaned and sanded the best of the wood, then cut off any bad edges and sorted it by width. We thought we might want to stain it, but decided we liked it just the way it was.

And now...the neighbors up the mountain with the collapsed outbuilding have told us they have more wood we might be interested in. Who knows what we'll use it for?

Sigh... It's so lovely. You have such a great aesthetic. It jumps by the bland all-same wood Tumbleweed look, and has so much character and serenity!

Hi, I tried to send a message by the Contact button, but it either didn't work (how it seemed on my end) or send you 15 copies of the same email (sorry bout that if so!). Here was my message:

Hi, I followed you over from Apt Therapy, and am loving your home and your blog.

One thought, I've been wandering around your site and really enjoying what I've found so far, but I can't seem to find the actual About page -- "here's who we are, what we're about" and basic house/grounds tour -- that I'm looking for. I went to Projects, and Building, and scrolled awhile, then went back to the oldest post.

I think you present a really great alternative to the ubiquitous Tumbleweed layout and aesthetic, and frankly I think your way is much more livable for many more people, so I'd love for more people to find your blog and get inspired!

Thanks so much, @LegoBrontosaurus ! For both your comments and your suggestion. A new landing page is in order! I'll work on that this week.

I'm so glad to read your comment that our house looks "liveable." That's really the point. We thought about how we lived and built the house to fit us--as a result, we don't miss all the extra rooms we used to heat and cool and furnish and clean and.... We've been in the house full time for a year and, if anything, I love it more than the day we moved in.

Thanks again for the suggestion.
