For months we've been piling food scraps, leaves and assorted organics at the edge of the forest in a sloppy pile that attracts its share of local scavengers. Thinking ahead to garden beds we hope to set up in the spring, we decided it was time to get a little more serious about our composting efforts. We sorted through our stack of shipping pallets and found a few that won't work for ongoing furniture and siding efforts...and now we have ourselves a tidier spot to pile our carbon-rich "browns" and nitrogen-rich "greens." We'll add some more boards to the front as our mound grows. |
